Apple doesn't want phones getting to people early. Keep in mind, Memphis is a (max) 4-hour plane ride to anywhere in the country. It's highly probable that you won't see any movement until tomorrow. All that Fedex is responsible for is making sure it's on a truck in your city by Friday morning, which means it needs to be at your local Fedex by tomorrow night.

Nope because AT&T sucks and their tracking never works. I have to call in daily to make sure none of the shipment dates have changed.
Why would you even consider calling FedEx? Unless it is Friday night at 8:10pm, and you don't have your phone, it isn't late.
It is normal for deliveries like these to stop at the shipper's central world hub until it's closer to the delivery date. This is so the shipment remains secured and is not accidentally released to the public before the November 3rd launch date. Rest assured, you'll have your phone on Friday!
Really? I haven't seen any scans with people with an arrival in Alaska and no departure, just those with departures from Alaska and nothing more. If it's the latter, your phone is sitting at WorldPort in Louisville right now waiting for its import scan, which supposedly will happen before evening today, at which point in time your tracking will update.
"Hello FedEx, my phone hasn't been delivered yet. I know it's not scheduled to be delivered until Friday, but this is unacceptable".
"I know you deliver millions of packages a week, but I know better than you, and you haven't delivered my package into the future as of today!!!"
I wouldn't worry if it still says preparing to ship. I still have that as well. Probably won't change until they ship out to your location.
Also, there is a reason they say overnight shipping. Meaning they can ship out Thursday evening and be out for delivery Friday morning.

Apple's official status will remain "preparing to ship" until the phones have cleared the import scan at WorldPort in Louisville. People will start receiving their tracking numbers and their status will change to "shipped" shortly after.
