Hello All,

I just sold my Mac Pro but I don't have the original box or packing material. Does anyone have experience shipping one of these beasties? Will it be hard on the Mac Pro if I ship it on its side?

I would be grateful for any practical, non-mocking advice :D

Go to a UPS Store and let them pack it,
They will double box it in Bubble Wrap and packing peanuts.

I have never had one damaged that I shipped through them.

The original box also works just as well ;)

They will do that! Awesome, that is what I will do then. Thanks for the advice!

I sure hope there are no insurance claims, but I have the insurance just in case!! What is with wives having to dispose of our boxes all the time (the only one she kept was a cantaloupe iMac box (it was cute)

Seconded. :D

They have the materials on hand, and should have the experience. ;) :p

I'd also recommend shipping it insured. Just in case the "Gorilla's" find a way to break it. It could make life much easier for you and the buyer. :)

Always and I say ALWAYS keep the original box when buying a mac pro!!

I've shipped 3 mac pros before and always UPS told me just ship it just the way it is with the original box since the foam in the original box is THAT secure and no problems at all.

If I were you, I'd ask UPS to bubble wrap the Mac Pro tower very thick and pack it in a box with a lots of peanuts just to make sure.

Sound advice to be sure! The new Mac Pro box (white though it may be) will be kept for sure!! It could be quite a week for me - New Mac Pro, New Cinema Display and iphone 3.0...

Thanks again for the advice all...

When you let the UPS store package you box, they have their The Pack & Ship Promise

So they will guarantee its safe arrival as well. I forgot to mention that.
And insure it and you will be fine.

They have a standard on how they pack computers, so you won't have to hassle them on how safe their packaging is.

Good Luck,

Oh, that is awesome!! I am going to take it in right now, and will surely follow your advice. Thanks again to all of you!

Computer arrived fine. Was covered up to my eyeballs in statically charged packing peanuts. Needed a machete to remove bubble wrap from Mac Pro.
