I'm moving to Japan from US soon and I'm trying to figure out what are the best ways to ship the iMac, or if it is even worth it? Any advice is appreciated! Thank you.

I wouldn't take it on the plane honestly. But you probably already know that.

Ship it with UPS, or something. Airmail, and make sure to insure.

Shipping a 21.5 inch iMac from the USA to Japan via UPS will probably set you back at least $250, depending on the speed of the delivery and insurance.

I've bought my all my Macs here in Japan but if I ever moved back to the states in the future I'd sell them here and start over at home rather than ship them. Considering the ease with which well-maintained Macs can be sold here and how they hold their resale value it would be the better choice economically.

I'm not sure if the same applies from your end.

My suggestion:

Buy a new (or refurbished) Mac Mini, transfer your stuff over to it, either sell the iMac or put it into storage or loan it out.

Pack the Mini with your luggage (it's -small-).

Buy a USB keyboard, mouse and display when you get to Japan...
