Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had any experience recently for shipping iPhone 6's internationally. My friend is studying abroad in Japan and he does not want to buy an iPhone from Japan because of the shutter restriction so he wants me to buy one from the U.S. and ship it to him in Japan, Tokyo. Any recommendations on how I would approach this?

You will need to buy the phone, and you will need to send it to him via e-mail.

Make sure you buy either Verizon/T-Mo/AT&T at full price at the apple store, they will be unlocked.

Then mail it out to him via postal office, put insurance on it. Done

Would the iPhone be considered a "dangerous" good? And are there any customs fee? I'm sorry this is my first time sending things overseas.

From my experience. I've not had any problems shipping phones overseas. Yes where will be customs but you can fill out the custom form at the postal office, I don't recall a fee for it. They will ask if it contains any liquid, explosive, lithium ion. As long the phone is turned off, you should be fine.

Oh okay. Sorry, just a few more questions, did you use their box? like the priority box or your own box?

I usually use their box. You can use your own box if you have one laying around. As long as the packaging will fit inside, you should be fine.

Okay, thank you very much!

I wouldn't recommend it. I'm living in Thailand and a friend from the US brought one over for me. Big mistake! The phone is a lemon and it needs to go back to the US for service/replacement due to hardware problems. I have only used it for 2 weeks and it has developed multiple problems which I won't go into here. The warranty is only valid in the US. I really miss my iPhone 5 which ran flawlessly for 2 years. Don't assume as I did that nothing can go wrong. I hope it's just my phone, and not the iPhone 6 in general.
