Hi all,

I have a friend in Italy who is willing to buy and ship me a 3GS, then I pay him back.

From checking the hmrc website it appears I won't pay import duty or VAT, and just wanted to check my interpretation is correct!

http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/customs/tax-and-duty.htm

You won’t have to pay Customs Duty if you’re travelling from the EU, or buying, ordering or sending goods to the UK from the EU for your own use

For goods brought in or sent to the UK from the EU there’s no extra VAT to pay unless you’re ordering or sending purchased goods from one of the EU Special Territories, such as Jersey or Guernsey.

Secondly will it be in Italian or can I set it to UK English at first boot?

Lastly anyone done this and any idea of the cheapest/insured method of posting to the UK?

Cheers,

Greg

get him to send you a 'gift' and you won't pay duty ;)

Don't know the answer to the rest but i'm sure you can set your iphone to UK after

Correct. No import duty or VAT on goods purchased from EU member states for delivery to other EU member states.

No need to send it as a gift, or undervalue it and risk not getting the full amount back should it get lost in the post.

Music to my ears, thanks....now off to try and work out shipping costs :D
