Friends,

The fix is as simple as turning off location awareness, wifi, and Bluetooth. This prevents the interference from happening when the two antennas are linked. Give it a shot and hit me back.

Sent from my iPhone 4 (without dropping my signal)

why would i accept turning off features that led me to get an iphone as a solution?

It's a temporary solution. I use those features as much as the next guy, but at least I can make a call.

They need to fix this pronto!

My fix was a clear rubber slim cover. Clear enough to notice it's an iPhone, slim enough to not become bulky, and somewhat rubbery to fix reception issue. I bought it at Best Buy and it's made by Belkin.

Apple Care asked me to "return it to the store for a new one, we are trying to track down all iPhones with this issue. It was a bad batch, and we want to fix this. Not everyone one is going to have this problem."

So I get to return them tomorrow. Oh happiness.

Do you have any record of that correspondence? I'd love to keep it for the future reference! :)
