My husband and I are looking to upgrade our iPhones, and we want to compare models in person (yes, we've researched online) and it seems the best way is to set up a shopping session. However, when I go to the Store app to set up a session, I'm seeing no availability for all stores in the DC Metro area at present. Is it only pickup service or free online session. Are all stores currently closed to shopping sessions at present?

Yes, some of you are going to say just buy the phone online and return if dissatisfied. We're not exactly made of money and we each have 2 potential models to chose from (Apple sure made it more complicated with their Pro and Max versions). So, save the reprimand for someone else - thank you.

It's understandable that you feel more comfortable scheduling shopping session. Buying a phone is not a one-size-fits-all experience, so no need to come out of the gate assuming MR members will give you a hard time.

I looked at all of the DC area stores and the message is that the sessions are all booked. In my region in the northeast US, there are sessions available. One thing you can try is to call a local store or two to simply ask how far in advance the sessions are booked and if the store staff have any suggestions in case there's a cancellation.

Another suggestion if you want to view the phones in person is to try a store like Best Buy, even though it sounds like you would rather buy from Apple. At least it will give you an idea of how the phones feel and maybe get some questions answered while you're waiting for an Apple session.
