Hey,

I wanted to get a MacBook in India. There is a $500 premium if I buy it in India, so I was wondering if anybody here knew about any stores or shops in the US that would ship to international locations. I already looked at the US Apple Store and CDW, but both of them said no.

Thanks,
Vedant

Thanks a lot. Hopefully Apple has not prevented them from shipping to India.

Uh

Dear valued Frys.com customer,

Due to manufacturers policy, we are not able to export Apple products. =

I do not know another company that would export the Mac for you.

Thank you for contacting Frys.com.

Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.

Sincerely,
Elizabeth E

UH, you didn't specify that this was an export ban specifically for Apple products, Vedant. You just said "Frys doesn't ship internationally either."

If I had received this mail I would have written back angrily to tell them they should make that very clear on their shipping information page. How annoying!

I do know that back in my PC days Frys was one of the only solutions for me to order US-centric Microsoft hardware and software here in Japan since they have a similar ban with almost all big retailers.

Sorry I led you wrong there. I will keep it in mind for future references. Looks like it's either Apple or a local alternative retailer if such a thing exists.

Yeah, but I don't mind that at all. I just need a goddamn retailer that would ship internationally!

The thread doesn't say anything about international stores. The 2.2 Ghz White MacBook has costs $500 more here than in the U.S.

When I lived abroad, I encountered the same issue with trying to get a Mac. I found a company called Shipito and they provide a service where you purchase the Mac online and they will forward it to you. It was a very reliable service and their fees are very low compared to many other companies I researched. I provided a link above. I hope this helps in the future.

Thanks, but I already have the macbook with me now. I'll have a look into Shipito when I have to order something again.

Since you've already bought it - that's good - but a word of caution. The $500 premium is worth paying - unless you want to get stuck with customs there, too much of a hassle to deal with - you would probably end up paying more than the premium in duties, bribes, shipping costs, not to mention a massive waste of time.

I remember when I ordered a $30 tub of protein there, paid $40 to ship it - and the post office asked me for $50 in duties

Thanx for the info. Shipito is definitely worth consdering.
