Short Name in menubar?

This is probably a stupid question, but I've searched and searched to no avail. In threads like the "December Desktops" thread, I sometimes see some people who have their shortname in the menu bar up by the clock. Where is this setting? I cant find it anywhere in System Preferences. Any help? Sorry for the stupid, simple question.

Thats part of fast switching options. You have to turn that on under your user accounts for that to be there.

System preferences -> Accounts -> Login Options -> Enable Fast user switching. Personally i have mine set for icon and not short name.
