Shortcut on desktop

I realize I'm probably asking a dumb question and that I've always been a PC user but I like having shortcuts on my desktop to websites that I check daily. I can't find how to make an icon that launches the particular website. Please don't laugh even though I know I'm a dummy

Just drag the address from the address bar to the desktop.
Beat me by seconds.

You can drag URL's from the address bar to your desktop or alternatively to the bookmarks bar.

Next dumb question, how do I edit the icon to make it be something I like? and the name shows with the extension, not crazy about that.
