Hi,
my friend bough iphone 4s for me from USA.
Should i ask him to activate iphone 4s or bring back without activation?
this iphone is in AT&T plan so can be activated in easily..

i'll be using this phone out of usa in local carrier.
I know there is no any jailbreak n unlock for iphone 4s now but i'm hoping it will be out soon.
Thanx

You wont be using it on your carrier any time soon.
Have it activate it so at least you can use it as an ipod touch.

If he paid the off contract price of the iPhone 4s it should come unlocked?

Not sure what he did.
If he got it full price from Apple chances are good but you will have to ask him if he's positive its unlocked.
Have him test it out with a Tmobile sim in the US or ask him when he restores it if he gets the below window to pop up.

It is carrier locked iphone 4s..
bought in $199..
he just want to continue using his iphone 3gs and gift me 4s

won't there be any software to activate it without sim soon?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8J2 Safari/6533.18.5)

Software? Not looking so good. Best thing is a gevey sim. Even then that's sketchy.

That doesn't work with the 4S or the i4 on 5.0 and higher.
Op there is nothing right now that will hactivate it. Maybe down the road, who knows.

It looks like your best bet would be to sell the AT&T locked iPhone 4s and buy a new unlocked phone from Apple. A quick scan of eBay sales seems to indicate that the AT&T phone could be sold for close to $600. An unlocked 16GB iPhone 4s from Apple costs $650, so you wouldn't have to fork out very much money.

I decided to activate it.. so that i can use iphone..when it arrives..

hope jailbreak n unlock of iphone 4s comes soon..

I am thinking you will be waiting a while for the unlock! you are best to sell it and get a official unlocked phone. they are supposed to be out in the us this month. nobody knows when there will be a unlock solution for the 4s if ever. AT&T is notorious for not allowing the iPhone to be unlocked from them.

Well actually if you preserve your baseband from 4.X.X then GeveySim will work on iOS 5, but obviously that's only for 3GS/4.

Finally its in my hand..
only using it to play games..
waiting for jailbreak..........
