I feel my computer very slow in the Internet and when I click my HD icon I got this strange file in there...

test.txt

with this content:
testfile.png

What is this?... virus?... trojan?

Can you provide more information?

What Mac OS X version do you use, where exactly is that file located (a path can be described like this: Macintosh HD / Users / YOU / Desktop or Macintosh HD /) and is that the full content of it?

Why does it make you concerned? A .txt file is not an executable, it is just a text file.

PS: Mac OS X has currently no viruses, some malware exists though, but you have to manually install it.

PPS: Any more information you can share with us?

Oooops... the file is located at Macintosh HD / test.txt

I'm using Mac OSX 10.5.8

What I'm concern about is that this file is there by itself. I did place it there...

Did you or did you NOT place it there?

What happens if you delete it? Does it come back?

What kind of database software do you have, if you have one?

Does anyones else have access to your computer? Is the Macintosh HD root directory shared over the network?

The file is similar to the log output from a program that is listening on tcp/ip port 50000. The port number is not a reserved port and a search of common ports show it's not a known trojan port.

I answer the questions below... thanks for the help

Did you or did you NOT place it there? - No

What happens if you delete it? Does it come back? - No, it doesn't come back

What kind of database software do you have, if you have one? - Don't have any

Does anyones else have access to your computer? - No

Is the Macintosh HD root directory shared over the network? - No

Then the seems to be no problem. Maybe a program you use has created this file there or you accidentally put it there, I don't know. But to write to Macintosh HD / one needs to enter an admin password.

And as it is only a text file, no harm should come from it. Have you looked for similar content containing files via a www search engine?

Do you by any chance have an app called Zinc on your Mac? Or any Flash games?
No Zinc here and No Flash game installed... thanks
