Should I buy 3g cuz of new battery vs used 2g?

I just bought a used 2g for $500 CAD, and I'm worried that the battery might die some time soon cuz I don't know who used it before me.
Now should I buy a new 3g only cuz the battery is going to last longer or what?

Or is it cheap to buy a new battery and replace it?
