I have been planning to buy an external HDD for Time Machine Backups and possibly another for cloning backup. I was looking at the new Seagate and WD hard drives for Macs which include FireWire.

This would be my first time buying one of these, and my first time using FW. Since Apple decided to take it off of the new MacBooks, would it be worth spending the extra money on one of these drives, or should I just go with the standard ones.

Also, I like how I can just use the FW cable and that powers and transfers data. Will it be the same with USB? Some of the drives I've seen have 2 USB cables, one for power and one for data.
