Hello,

My university is organizing a sellout including some Mac sales:

Mac Pro 2x2 core, 2ghz, 4gb ram without HD, August 2006 for 550 dollars

My question is whether the price is worth and how about the performance compared to my Macbook Pro 13 "2011 (standard equipment i5)

Thanks for the answers

Mfg.

The Mac Pro's are workhorses and built to last. I am still using a 2006 Mac Pro, although mine does have slightly faster processors (3Ghz). I think the price is pretty good, in the UK you could probably sell that for $700-800 on eBay, provided it is in good condition and the case is not damaged.

However it will be noticeably slower than your current Mac Book Pro. But for Web Browsing, Documents and email it will be fine.

Make sure it comes with install disks. As its a university sale they should, but may not. The biggest mistake I see all the time is people buying used Macs(and computers in general) without OS install disks and eventually get themselves into trouble when something goes wrong.

If it doesn't you'll want to either shell out for a 10.6 Snow Leapord disk or create a Lion install disk/USB-stick.
