Hi,
I'm choosing new HDD for my Macbook Pro 2008 Late with 8GB RAM.
Now I have stock 320GB Hitachi - And that's not enough for me now (It's slow and small) - I would like to have 750GB HDD - And in Czech in can choose between:

1)
WD Scorpio Blue AF - 5400rpm -+ 75$

2)
WD Scorpio Black - 7200 rpm -+ 90 $
I've read that MBP 5,1 (mine) has problems with this hard drive - Can you confirm that?

3)
Seagate Momentus 7200.5 - 7200 rpm -+ 80$

4)
Seagate Momentus - 5400 rpm - 85$

5) Seageate Momentus XT 750GB - 140 $
My favorite, but it cost nearly two times more than other - It is worth it?

I would get it, its faster than the traditional HDD which is why its more money.

I know it's hybrid (750GB normal HDD, 8GB SSD cache ) :)

Is there someone who has experience with this harddrive? (noise, vibrations, speed) ?
I've found many bad experiences with heat, speed, freezing etc.
Edit: Looks like problems with HDDs & OS X depends on Mac's mood :D
I've found problems with every of these HDD

These drives are great. The first version required some iterations of the firmware, the second version (i.e., the 750GB) was good from the get go.

Yes, an internal which is not at least hybrid really sucks in my case.

But be sure to understand where the improvement is.

So you recommend me Momentus XT right? :)

I have the XT 500GB model one and it works great on a laptop. It boots everything much faster for my Sony Vaio. Once I sold off the Sony I use it as a portable HDD works fine too. Of course nothing beats a SSD but for a hybrid its wonderful.

I got my 750XT a year ago. Absolutely worth it. Running OS X and W7 in parallels is night and day. With 16GB ram (tested with factory and then the hybrid) its a big difference. Unfortunately, I will say that I'm only waiting on the SSD cost to come down in the 1TB size range. Factory (spinning) is slow, hybrid (momentus) is a very noticeable improvement, pure SSD is in its own category. If the 500GB is full, the 750XT is worth the money for 50% more space and a noticeable speed improvement. Full SSD isn't worth the money for >500GB yet. Another year and 1TB will be affordable in SSD with 2-4TB at a premium.
