That's the link. The individual mentions that the HD "could go out" and that the battery won't charge because of the damaged HD? Sounds rather fishy to me, but she said she'd take $550 for it.

I got this message back:

"No. They didn't tell me anything. They checked the battery. Thats
all I know. It holds a charge for about 2 minutes.".

So should I assume it's just a dead battery and not a busted logic board? Replace the HD and I'm home free?

1. Sounds to me like the hard drive is fine. When the read/write heads are parked a hard drive can take fairly high shock loads.

2. Sounds like the battery is dead. With this in mind you should be able to just replace the battery.
 
if the battery is covered by the Battery Explosion Warantee then take it to apple and get a new one
