I can get a NIB MacBook Air 13" for $800 cash. On Black Friday I bought a MacBook Pro and returned it. Reason, I still used my iPad for everything. Since the iPad 2 purchase, I have not touched a PC at home unless I needed a file or burn a CD. Yet I can recognize a deal when I see it and I think this is one.

Local friend has and does not want. He won it or something.

Listen, if I had that deal, I would do it. If you don't want it or won't use it, put it online and sell it...you'll turn a profit.

I agree to a point, but it's kind of crummy to turn around and try to turn a profit on a great deal your friend gives you.

It's up to you, personally $800 in the pocket is probably better than an $800 deal you won't get much use from.

If you're not going to sell it for a profit, then it doesn't matter if it's 5% or 20% discounted if you don't need it.

If you didn't like your MBP, why would you want to now buy an MBA?

Figure out if you actually have use for the device and not get carried away by a discount.

He wouldn't care that I sold it. He just wants to move it. I also agree with your reasoning. It's a heck of a deal, but I dunno why I would use it. It would also be my first Mac.

that's an absurd deal. Even retail the best deal was BB's 1099, my open box was 900 pre tax and this is NIB for 100 less from a person you know. Since I use mine for both work/casual I do like having the keyboard. Can you use citrix on the ipad yet?

Buy it... I have an Air + iPad + iPhone. I'm really not sure if I want to keep my iPad. I bought the Air for $1600. If you can get one for that price, go for it, replace whatever computer you have currently. Once you go SSD you never go back

Is this a really good friend? - then no problem -if a passing acquaintance, it sounds like it could be hot....I believe apple keeps a list of hot ser #'s....might run the check...

I told him I'll take it. If I decide not to keep it, I'll sell it.

a 2011 13" MBA for $800???? BUY IT QUICK!!! Like someone already suggested, if you find that you don't really use it that much, you can always resell it for a profit. :D
