Hey, Just ordered a 15", 2.8, 7200 rpm 320 GB
I DONT want a noisy MBP. So i'm pretty worried about the latest discussions about the HDD issues. Do you guys think the problem is solved on the new ones (sold from sep 09) ? Or sould i rather buy a MBP with 5400 to be on the safe side?

Hope you will answer!

Personally I only buy stock computers because its easier to swap them (or return them) if they're defective. CTO orders have a different warranty stipulation with exchanges/returns.

To that end, I'd say yes cancel it, and then get a stock machine. You can then put in a drive to liking for less money.

As for noisy 7200 drives, I have a 500gig 7200 drive (seagate 7200.4 bought from newegg) that is quiet and vibration free. I'm not sure if that helps but I'm happy with it. If you are concerned then the 5400rpm makes more sense.

i got the 5400rpm and changed immediatly to an ssd .. ;) (silence is golden)
but pricey

While the advantages of SSD are legion, cost is not one of them and the larger the drive, the more $$ you pay. I'd wait another year, the cost per gigabyte should be more economical. Besides if SL still doesn't have the TRIM feature performance will slowly degrade with usage.
