There & Back Again
I have a friend who will trade me his new i5 2.4 MBP for my 17" C2D 2.8 MBP. Both are base configurations.

I want the speed so I know that the processor is worth it, but there is about a $400 difference. Both of them are refurbished and are a couple of months old.

What do you think?

1. You are already going down to 15" so why not
2. Core i5!!!

I wonder though. Would it be better to just sell your 17" MBP and see how much you get? You might get enough for a refurb 15" MBP PLUS some cash left over?

I haven't really gotten a lot of good bites on the 17". C2D is a dead product it seems these days.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I hear the 2.4 i5 is around 30-50% faster than the 2.8 I hear. Reckon I'm gonna go for it.

Guys you are getting me pumped about this trade.

I do a lot of Final Cut work, photosho, illustrator and audio rendering, as well as encoding/ripping. My other computer is a Mac Pro with the Nehalem chip and I certainly appreciate extra cores and extra virtual cores. The 2.8 is dog slow at rendering for me.

I'd still like the guy to throw me $100 - we'll see how it goes.

Sounds like a heck of a deal to me.

Why? Take it and run. Unless you think you can get $1800 + tax + $100 when selling your C2D 17"?
Do you think you can get over 2k for it?
I understand the i5 is not brand new, but your post says new, so it must be in excellent condition.
Then you get the smaller notebook you want with a faster CPU and GPU, mini displayport which transport audio and video, and the inertia scrolling trackpad.

My 17 was bought in March, the 15 was just purchased today (refurb). This guy wants the 17 real bad so I told him to get me that model and I would swap him. So it's enroute.

PS the comments on the video card - 330 256mb > 9600gt?

330 > 9600 for sure if you ask me.
