Have you checked to see if TRIM has already been enabled?

You can do that in the System Report.
 
How is it connected to the Mac? SATA3 internal connection? USB3? Thunderbolt?
 
Is it inside a 2012 Mac mini then? And is the drive formatted with APFS or HFS+?

The Trim issues with Samsung drives were specific to Linux (there's no longer a problem with linux either at this point) and have never shown to be an issue on Macs. I'd enable trim without any concern on a Mac, regardless of how the disk is formatted.
