I currently alternate a MBA M1 (for work) & a MBP 2019 (personal) and I use them 95% of the time hooked on a 27" 1440p/165HZ monitor.
As I play GeForce Now including competitive games, I am currently connecting my router to my computer over RJ45 Cat6A to benefit from low latency as well as higher download speeds (I do have a 8Gbps Connection, with 1Gbps max per device but my ISP might upgrade it to 2Gbps per device next year).
I do plug 4 cables to my MAC: i) USB C to USB C to connect my monitor ii) magic keyboard (I play wired when gaming for no latency) iii) the mouse (yet it's plugged in USB-A to my Monitor directly but I might buy a new wireless mouse with low latency so that would be one less cable) iv) the USBC charging cable (as my monitor can only output 18W over PD, it is enough for my Silicon MBA but definitely not for my Intel MBP).
As I will use Ethernet, I should also buy a Thunderbolt adapter so that would be yet another cable I would need to plug and I was wondering if it would be a better deal to buy a dock/hub/switch to plug all these cables on this device. Therefore I would only need to plug one usb-c cable to my MAC and it would take care of the charging, display on monitor, mouse, keyboard, internet over ethernet etc. I saw the CalDigit 4 but honestly it's a bit overkill as I don't seed the sd card slots, USBA etc. However I might buy an audiophile headset so maybe there is some type of external audio card/USBC/Ethernet hub combo that exists?
What do you think is the best approach?
