I have an iPhone 6 Plus. It seems to overheat whenever I play the game I'm currently hooked on (Disney Emoji Blitz). I don't think the game is too demanding for the hardware in general, but today it got so hot that the phone shut itself off.

In addition to that, the battery seems to drain awfully fast. I can go a whole day with barely even using my phone and the battery level will drop 20-30% by the end of the day.

Is this just typical behavior once an iPhone is a few years old? For my needs, it still has all of the features I need in a phone so I wouldn't necessarily benefit from additional features that I'm sure the newer models offer, but I feel like my phone isn't working as well as it used to.

If I do buy a new phone, can I just take the sim card out of my current phone and put it into the new one?

The battery can be replaced for $79 I believe, but your phone overheating sounds concerning. You might want to let Apple to check it out. Your SIM card can be used in a new phone. Phone batteries usually last 2 to 3 years depending on how heavily you use your phone. The iPhone 6+ is a bit dated by today’s standards so an upgrade might be something to consider.

Thank you. How much would an Apple store charge to examine my phone for overheating problems?

Are you fine with the performance of your 6 Plus? If yes, then just replace the battery and enjoy 2 - 3 more years of it. If not, upgrade to the XR.

I'm happy with the performance. It's the battery life I'm not happy with, and the fact that it shut down by itself today (presumably due to overheating) raised some concerns.
