So I was planning on getting one of the 2nd generation iPod touches.
I'm selling my 80GB classic on Monday and the next day I would have enough money to get the 8GB.
If I wait a couple more weeks for my birthday I will have enough money to get the 16GB, but I will be without an iPod for 13 days; I'm not sure I can last that long.
So would it be worth the wait to get a 16GB instead of an 8GB?
[EDIT] I also have 12,000 songs, and it would be very hard to deal with only have 1,750 songs if I got the 8GB but if I got the 16GB I would be able to have 3,500 songs.[/EDIT]

If you can't stand 13 days without an MP3 player then I'd say you have bigger issues than being without music. Just wait the 2 weeks and get the 16GB.

WAIT and get the 16gb..you will be glad you did...PLUS the resale will be better when you upgrade!

Well it looks like the original poster got his answer.

I'm looking to get a touch on Monday.
Is 8GB enough for someone with 1GB or less of music and a modest video library?
I've got 33GB in TV shows and movies but I don't really see the need for seasons 1-5 of Family Guy all the time.
What I'm really interested in is the app store.

How big are the movie files anyways? Lets say a full length movie in decent quality.

About 700-800MB at high quality but at 320x240.
Three American Dad episodes at full resolution are only 500MB, though.

I have Across the Universe and that takes up a whopping 851!!!
And my I am Legend takes up almost 600MB.
You really have to take into consideration on where the video is from and the quality when talking about how much space it takes up.
I also have Superbad and that takes up 288MB and it's 20 minutes longer than I am Legend.
Another example is that I have Titanic, it takes up 653MB and it's 3 hours and 15 minutes!

My episodes of American Dad are about 170MB if I download it off of iTunes and about 75MB if I download it from uTorrent and convert it for iPod.

Wow, that's hard to decide.
I would say just to get the 8GB if you don't really care about not having that many TV shows on.
And the Apps don't really take up that much space at all.
So ya, the 8GB should be perfect.

I think I used iSquint to convert mine but I kept the settings high.

Thanks, I think I'm right getting the 8GB.
It also means I won't be as guilty when they bring out the next ones!

The 8GB is fine if you don't feel that you need to carry your whole library with you at all times. My whole library won't fit on my 16GB iPhone but I wanted to be able to bring a lot of music with me. You can simply store your TV shows and music on your computer and then just keep shows you are going to watch in the near future and a good chunk of your music library on your Touch. I created an iPhone library in iTunes that I sync to my iPhone and I update it periodically.

I have a bunch of Apps on mine and they really don't take up very much room.

I just checked and here is what I have on mine and the amount of space it takes up. The 16GB iPhone (and Touch) have a capacity of 14.64GB. I'm not sure what the 8GB has but I would guess half of mine for 7.32GB.

805 Songs (2.5 days worth) = 4.26 GB
28 Apps (some purchased, some free) = 432 MB
Video (1 Movie (2 hours long), 10 TV episodes (20min each) = 4.35 GB
237 iPhone Photos = 97.5 MB
Other Data (I'm guessing this is Contacts, Email, Etc.) = 248MB
-----------------------------------
Total = ~ 9.39GB
Free Space = 5.29GB

Hope this info helps you make your decision.

Cheers.
