I know this is kinda a silly question but does anyone regret buying the 30 GB iPod and wish they got the 60? I am getting one this weekend and for only $100 more, that 60 is looking pretty good.

I recently bought the 30gb iPod. Within 1 hour I had it half filled up with just mp3's. I should have spent the extra money and bought the 60gb. I haven't even download video podcasts yet. I know that will fill it up even more. If you can afford the 60, go with that. You never know, 6 months from now you could be kicking yourself, because you didn't buy the 60.

It should not matter whether others have experienced regrets or not. If you are even giving thoughts to the 60 GB model (and you are), just purchase it and you will not fall prey to having doubts after the fact.

My wife makes the final decisions but I may be able to persude her. I just don't know if the battle is worth it.

I bought a 30 gigs as soon as they were released and absolutely don't regret it.

Mind you, my mp3s library is only nearly 10 gigs... I've ripped a few DVDs and some 24 series to bring with me and they kept me good company on my flights or lonely hotel nights.

Randomly, I just delete some the video content and load the most recently ripped DVDs. It's been working a charm for me.

:)

i think it all depends on how much music you have... when i got my first ipod (30gb 3g) it was the largest capacity model available. i thought i would never fill it. of course, now my music alone is in excess of 45gb. when you think about it, $100 to double your storage capacity is a pretty good bargain. plus it gives you a comfortable margin for a growing music library. i went with the 60 gb when the 5g came out. and that's what i'd recommend.

Also, don't forget with the 60GB the extra 6 hours battery you get for music and the extra hour for video. That was one of the major factors when i decided which to purchase.

The 60gig is still slim! Trust me, for a 60GB hard drive it isnt bad at all.

BARE IN MIND:

You can go ahead and buy a 60 gig if you want one, but if you have a PowerBook with an 80 gig hard drive like I do, that doesn't make much sense - because you have to store all of the stuff on your machine, too.

I don't know how it works with external HD's... but yeah. Haha.

good point. you can only use what you can carry. there is a way to get your iTunes to look at an external HD to store your library. however, this means you have to have an external HD. personally, i rotate all my music so 20GB is good fer me. wouldn't mind the 60GB for vids, tho...:D

i keep my videos on my back up hard drive and everytime i start up my comp, if i don't want to have to re-add all the videos to my library, the drive has to be connected.

YOU SHOULD WAIT UNTIL BIGGER ONES COME OUT. well actually I have no clue if they will be bigger, but at least wait until april 1st when we find out what new iPod comes out.

just put the stuff you listen to most on the 30 gb, and switch it in/out every once in a while. maybe you don't need your entire library on it?

im using the 60GB, i've had it since november last year. it has 5,000 songs, mostly AACs, at 128 to 192kbps; about 100+ mp3s at 190+ kbps; around 50 lossless files; 250 photos; 150 music videos and short clips/podcasts. and i'm barely tapping 22GB. in fact, i already want to get rid of some of the video stuff that's been inside for a couple of months. so to answer you question, 30GB might just be enough.

Yea, I do regret not buying the 60, because they are obviously worth more and now since I am thinking of selling it I would rather have the bigger iPod, I even had the money to get the bigger one. I don't know about myself. But I wouldn't get one just yet. Wait for the new products coming sometime around April.

it's really crazy how much of a difference bitrate makes.. i have approximately the same video loading in terms of size, all mine are TV shows though (about 3.5 GB total, seems like it would be a bit more than you but not necessarily a ton more) and only 3,000 songs. but the average bitrate of my music is somewhere around 250 MP3 (rough guess) and i'm around 25 GB.

so factor bitrate in to your estimates.. if you are gonna rip all your music in AAC 128 like iTunes defaults to, unless you're a really hardcore low-bitrate-music-listener, i can't imagine any possible need for the 60.

meanwhile, if you rip lossless a lot, or high bitrate AAC/MP3, DEFINITELY get the 60, it will fill up faster than you can possibly guess.

Just don't forget that a half hour TV show is 85-115MB.... if you're going to have a lot of video space fills up quick.

Agreed... I never thought I would fill up my 60GB when I bought it, but after several movies/t shows I have about 10 GB left on it

... What I'm basically saying is to spend the extra money and buy the 60... better safe than sorry
