I'm thinking of getting the updated 12-inch MacBook with 512GB storage and 16GB RAM options as a home, travel and light-work laptop, since I don't want to be lugging around my heavier 2015 MBP everywhere. I'll use the MacBook for web browsing/email/writing, productivity software, light weight graphic design (Sketch), and web development (Atom, Docker, etc).

Should I upgrade to the i7 processor for better performance? And does the i7 decrease battery life?

Thanks!

Went with i5, minimal improvement and didn't want to wait for special order.

Thanks @munakib

I just placed an order for the i5 option. I was looking at the processor specs and it looks like both the i5 and i7 support hyperthreading:

i7-7Y75: https://ark.intel.com/products/95441/Intel-Core-i7-7Y75-Processor-4M-Cache-up-to-3_60-GHz

i5-7Y54: https://ark.intel.com/products/95452/Intel-Core-i5-7Y54-Processor-4M-Cache-up-to-3_20-GHz

Given these I see no reason to go to the supposed "i7".

I'm trying to figure out if I will see any difference from my 2015 rMB, and/or if I should do the 13" MBP instead.
