So I just bought my first mac, I went with the new 2.53 with the educational discount. Should I have bought the 2.8 model? When I opened up my computer it had a dead pixel so I took it to the apple store and they said they would give me a new one when it came in at the end of the week. Can I returned the new one because it is unopened? I am not sure what I am going to do with the computer, I might play games I might do so illustrator and photoshop. I really want a computer that is going to last about 5 years.

One question I do have is with the hard drive. I was planning on upgrading to a SSD but then I found out that apple had lowered the SATA speed to 1.5. Is the speed the same on the 2.8 or is it faster?

if you have the money for it, might as well go for the 2.8. However, photoshop, illustrator, and games will run easily on a Macbook Pro. Even that is overkill.

Save your money, you won't notice the speed increase with the applications you're running.

As for now, all 13" and 15" MBPs only have 1.5Gb SATA connections.
