I haven't been having any problems recently with my iPhone 3G. Connections are fine, I have 4-5 3G bars all around the area, and although Safari crashes about once a day, it's not a big deal. I'm just concerned that I'll upgrade to 2.1 (I have 2.0.2 installed now) and start having issues.

What do those of you who have upgraded already think?

I have the 1st Gen iPhone and I have been very pleased with 2.1. My iPhone works a lot better now. It's no longer a hastle to sync/backup my iPhone and I no longer see sluggish performance or strange behavior when using the phone. I am especially happy they fixed the Contacts delays. I am back to loving my phone.

I've had the iPhone since day one (now a 3G) and 2.1 to me is by far the best stability upgrade yet.

I finally upgraded my first gen iPhone to 2.1 and couldn't be happier. My battery life has doubled over 2.0, now it is back to 1.x levels. I've been using 2.1 for three days on a single charge, 2.0.x only got about a day and a half with the same usage. The delays in contacts and typing in Safari are gone. Safari has only crashed once in three days of use, whereas it crashed several times a day on 2.0.x.

I haven't noticed any major improvements since I installed it, but I really didn't have very many problems before either. I say go for it.

I wonder if the OP is a user of very many third party applications? Version 2.1 has stopped my first generation iPhone from crashing back to the home screen whenever any third party applications were launched. I could fix it temporarily, but that behavior always returned.

It is also worth installing, along with iTunes 8.0, because backup times are much, much shorter.

My iPhone is working the best it has since it last was running version 1.1.4. The decision to update in this case is easy - Do it!

Many of us are having POP fetch issues since upgrading to 2.1, so if that would effect you, then I would say NO.

Otherwise, it seems to be a good update.

Interesting. I started having POP mail fetch issues with version 2.0, but I haven't had any more of them since updating to 2.1. The release notes for 2.1 refer to fixing that. I wonder why I have stopped having those problems and others have started.

If you wanna jailbreak I'd wait. Lots of bugs. No easy jailbreak option out yet. I'd read around the forums before deciding. The reviews are mixed. Using iTunes 8 is also causing some issues.

the 2.1 is (almost) comparable to 1.1.4, actually you know what it is on the same level as 1.1.4

if you want an iphone the way it "should" be then DO IT! DO IT NOW!!

Pretty close. While Safari still isn't as stable as it was in 1.1.4, and Push from MobileMe still occasionally craps out (though obviously not an option in 1.1.4), its way, way better than any 2.0.x version.
