Hi all,

I own a Classic MBP that I purchased in June 2007. As such its over 4 years old. It came with Tiger, and it used to be blazingly fast. Now I have Snow Leopard, and it's just not as fast as it used to be. I have formatted the drive, and installed a fresh copy of SL, but it didn't make a difference.

I have a feeling that if I install Lion, then it will slow down the machine even more. Has anyone experiences issues after installing Lion on a 4 year old machine?

Thanks!

From my experience, Lion wont make your Mac faster, but it shouldn't make things slower (unless you use Resume, in which case it will).

i have the same MBP as above except with 4Gb of RAM. some things seem faster with Lion, so IMO it's worth the upgrade. plus i'm too anal not to have the latest version of software.

Same Mac, but with 4GB RAM...Lion seems to be running pretty well and I haven't noticed any slowdowns (and this is coming from a guy who went from 10.1 through 10.4 on an iBook G3) :)

Thanks for the replies, guys. From what I noted, every one has a 2008 or later MBP.

My 2007 MBP is much slower than the 2008 ones. It struggles a lot with Snow Leopard.. takes over a few minutes to boot up.

I guess I will format the drive and install Lion... and hopefully it won't be bogged down.

What is the speed of your hard drive? I think the late 2007 MBP came with options of 3 different speed hard drives.
they came in i think 4800 (200 gig mine is that one and it is slow on some things) the standard 5400 and the higher speed 7200. I did not have an option in mine as it was given to me. I hope to upgrade to a solids state hard drive or a bigger 7200 drive. But even with the slower Hard Drive the start up is slow but not as slow as the 17" powerbook i was using - but it is much faster in lion then Leopard or snow leopard - i did a clean install on lion that might make a differance!
