His is a

15" 2.33Ghz, 256VRAM 2GB of RAM 160GB HD

Mine is

15" SR 2.2Ghz 128VRAM 4GB of Ram 120GB HD..

On paper his is bigger and better but it's not a Santa Rose chipset and the ram but be a pain later on... is this worth it?

Keep yours.

There's a reason that person initiated the trade. People generally don't ask to trade down. Keep that in mind.

No.

for trading you have to consider not only value, but also risk, such as hidden information...

Why is this beneficial for you? They'd have to be throwing in a few hundred bucks too to make this worth it - it's an older machine, so more usage wear (battery, enclosure, innards) with half the RAM, and no LED backlighting.

Your newer chipset and features negate any of his you might consider "bigger" or "faster".

That trade is almost the stupidest thing I ever heard. Your 8600gts beats the living **** out of an X1600, and Santa Rosa chipset with the increased bus speed helps out with the missing processor speed. Not to mention yours has double the ram.

Only thing you would be getting is 40 GBs more of hard drive space.

You also have a better screen, and used a lot less.

Although his is 2.33Ghz, the difference is basically negligible (1.3% according to this site). Also, what are you using that you think the extra vram will speed up the machine? Personally I think the RAM will have more impact that the video card in all uses except gaming. Even then I would still keep yours though.
