Hello,

Like many of you, I am in the process of purchasing the new MBP 2018. I have been holding out with no computer since the beginning of the year. I was using a iMac from 2007 through 2015 almost every day.

I will be doing photo editing via Lightroom and potentially some light music and video editing as well. I am not a “Pro”, so I want to know if should I pay $300 more for 2.7GHz quad-core, 8th Gen i7?

I will be getting the 13” w/16gm RAM upgrade and 1TB SSD upgrade. That would be $2,600 already, the 2.7GHz will put me at $2,900 which is extremely pricey. I will take care of this MBP and want to be using it for as long as it will last me, hopefully at least 5 years.

Wanted to get your thoughts...

Probably not worth it. If you need more processing power now you're probably better off with the 15". Else the i5 is powerful enough for most people.

Yes if you can afford it. I ordered mine with the i7 as it makes building 1:1 previews in Lightroom faster.
