Hello,

I'm wondering whether it's best to power off the iPad every day or to keep it on unless a restart is needed.

Please advise. Thanks.

Just like people, these gadgets needs to take a rest in order to function well and prevent several damages.

I leave mine on unless it's going go be left alone for a very long time (never). But if you are going away for a few days and are for some reason not bringing it - it might be a good idea. But on a daily basis? Definitely not.

Whoever said leaving it on causes damage, or that it needs to rest, is wrong. Apple devices were meant to be left on 24/7, thats how they were designed. Ask any genius. Or mr. Jobs himself.

I switch mine off everyday before I go to sleep.why have it in stand by mode for 8 nours when I know it wont be used.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

Because it uses virtually no power when asleep. I'd wager it uses as much or more power to go through the reboot cycle.

That's true. I leave my iPhone, iMac and MBP on ALL the time. They only go to sleep or get restarted when necessary. But I never shut them off. I've been doing this practice with Apple products for four years now and have never had any damage!

It can occasionally be useful to clear memory if the iPad has been in use for some time. Some of the larger apps seems a bit memory starved when they start up for the first time and initialize themselves - and I've seen several app help pages recommend this.

It's certainly not essential - but if you see problems with crashing of an app after you've just installed then it can be worth trying.

Interesting
I have never experienced that type problem

My Dad is one of those 'energy efficient' types and always turns it off completely, it annoys me for some reason.

I turn it off when I go to sleep as I do with my iPod Touch, but after reading here that it is unnecessary I may just leave it on.

I leave my iPad and laptop always in sleep mode. Never power them off unless a major update requires restart or performance has lagged down.
There is a reason why the power off on the iPad isn't just a one second one click thing - it takes more work to power it off than to put it to sleep.

I never turn it off. That would sort of defeat the "instant on" capability.
