i am waiting for the shipment of a brand new i5 2.4GHz MBP 15 (w/ HR Glossy and 7200rpm 500GB HD) that i ordered through a friend's Apple employee discount (15% off).
while waiting, i saw a great deal on eBay which i purchased after heavy deliberation and a price drop (i7 2.6GHz MBP 15 w/ HR AG, 5400rpm 500GB HD) for $2024 (after bing cashback). Link, still 1 more if you're interested! The only downside is that the HD is slower (5400rpm vs 7200rpm).
from what i understand (correct me if i'm wrong), I can return the built-to-order MBP back to Apple without a restocking fee as long as it's unopened. So i have 3 options that I am considering:
1) Return it to Apple and consider upgrading HD from 5400->7200rpm on my own dime (safe/simple way)
2) Swap the HD's and sell the i5 MBP (pro: i end up with 7200rpm HD, possible profit | con: i'd have to open the box, possible loss)
3) Sell the BTO i5 MBP 7200rpm HD as is, unopened, for profit (pro: possible profit, con: possible loss)
thoughts?
