I have a 2008 mac book pro 15". I went by the apple store and they said that the Ethernet port is not working. And that the logic board and Ethernet port are connected and they both need to be replaced. To replace it, it will cost 310 plus tax and it will take about a week. Is it best to replace it or just paid to fix it? Any tips or suggestions?

Thanks.

No, if only the ethernet port is not working don't bother, get a USB to Ethernet adapter if you need wired Network.

It's a 5 years old Mac, who knows how much longer it lasts.

Bold, what do you mean by this?

sell it now, then buy a new haswell one if you can. Even with a broken ethernet you might be able to get at least $600 for it

Can you use wireless instead of the Ethernet port? Add a USB Ethernet adapter? Much cheaper and easier then replacing the motherboard.

As others have said, if you can't afford to get a new system, get a USB to ethernet adapter while you gather money. Or if you want to wait for the next update before you buy a new system. I would suggest taht you start backing up your system if you haven't been doing that.

The Ethernet controller is on the logic board. So when it breaks the logic board needs to be replaced. This is true for all Macs and pretty much all Windows PCs these days.

Just found the wording a bit odd, I am aware they are always on the Logic board. (Apple)

I just got one and it works perfectly.

My hard drive died, so i replaced it and now I need a replacement battery. I'm going to wait for the macbook pro update on june 10,2013.

If you still need an Ethernet connection, you may not want the retina MBP. It does not have an Ethernet port. The classic MBP still has Ethernet, but there are rumors they may be phased out in the next update. Just letting you know.

thanks. But I home I've been using the WiFi. So no need to the Ethernet connection. I just going to wait for Haswell to come out. :D
