Hi there,

I got my refurbished 2017 15" i7 2.9Ghz, 512 SSD and 4GB 560X MacBook Pro from Hong Kong 1 month ago. Since I am now in Germany, I see from Ebay that I could still sell the MacBook Pro (in Germany) with a price, more or less the same as a 2018 15" i7 6 cores 512 SSD config.

(Mac products are ridiculously expensive in Germany as compared to HK), so my question is, would you recommend me to do so?

I am just concern if the throttling issue on the new i7 (not i9) will impact how much the 2018 perform better than my current 2017 one. But, I have a feeling that the new 2018 keyboard is more reliable and 6 cores performance would still be better than 4 cores...??

I mainly used it for Final Cut Pro and casual iOS development

Base on this, would you suggest me to do so?
Thanks.

Of course the 2018 will be faster. How much - depends on what you do. If the cost is small and you don't mind the hassle of exchange, you should get it. Also, the keyboard is probably more reliable.

On the i7 the reports aren't as serious as the i9s. And technically even your current 2017 MBP could be subject to throttling if you run it hard enough. If you aren't constantly pushing the machine to the max and overheating the processors, I don't think the i7 will have that significant of throttling for you.

Also, there is a chance some of this could be remedied in future OS updates, so I suspect throttling may not be as prominent a discussion point on these machines in the future. I mean people are acting all surprised that the i9 is throttling, but I mean most of us knew there was going to be some throttling based on how other laptop models have faired that use the same processor.
