Hi, today (Saturday) is the last day for returning the machine. The only issue I have with this machine is pairing with bluetooth keyboards. The rest are fine (with the understanding that the popping is just a software cover up). Spent 1.5 hours with Apple and another one hour with Logitech. They cannot solve the issue but they said that they would follow up. They did point the finger at each other. Apple did a screen sharing and I sent a file for them to analyze my machine yesterday. They said that they would get back to me but haven't heard from them. In this case, should I keep it or return? I am getting a bit tired of backing up, uninstalling, reinstalling, etc.

Do you need this machine? If yes, live with these hassles for a little while, they will get sorted in some update on both Apple's and Logitech's part. If not, just return it and go back to your previous machine and live peacefully.

Also, if you have time, install a fresh copy of 10.15.3 and the latest drivers from Logitech (if any) and see if it solves the problem. If not, take a call based on above.

I need a machine. If I return this, I will buy another MBP 16" again and hope it does not have this issue. It seems that there were some complaints about bluetooth connection issues with Catalina in Macrumors last Fall but nobody else seems to have issues in recent weeks. So I don't know if I am the only one who has such pairing issue.

Did SMC reset on the machine already. Spent CAD$30 on an hour of long distance call with Logitech already. I thought it were free :-(

Oh that is bad. Try a fresh install of 10.15.3 and see if it is resolved. Also, take your keyboard to an Apple Store, see if it pairs with one of those display pieces. If it does, return your machine and get another one since there might be some hardware issue with this one in that case.

It the problem is with a specific peripheral I would assume the problem would still occur with a new system. If it works for you scenario you might try a USB connected keyboard. I have used mine with my MBP 16" successfully.

Thanks for mentioning about the drivers from Logitech. Before, I installed the Logi Options which I downloaded from the website shown in the product box. I have used several Logitech products for many years. Usually they just work out of the box and with an additional software, more features (which I don't usually use) are enable. What Logitech did not mention in the box nor product website is that for their bluetooth keyboards to work under Catalina, we need to also download an additional software called Logitech Control Center Daemon. After installing it and giving permission, it pairs immediately without any issue.

I wonder what kind of training the tech support lady had. She never mentioned any of these two software in our 1-hour long distance conversation and wasted me CAD$30.

Happy to know this is resolved for you.

Furthermore, you need to write to Logitech about getting your money refunded explaining them clearly that the person at the other end was deficient in knowledge about the company's products. They may not refund you directly, but even if they give you some credit towards another product that you might be considering, it still won't feel like having money wasted on a phone call where the company representative provided deficient services.

Thanks.

On their forum, I have seen many posted un-replied. I sent them email and they did not reply. The only way to contact them from outside the USA is via long distance letter. In this case, is writing a physical letter to the main office the way to go?

Thanks.

Well, if it they are not making communicating with the company easy, leave it. Time saved is money saved, anyway, and if the company makes it so difficult to get in touch, I can make an educated guess it is not going to be friendly enough to offer you a credit of your money towards some other product of theirs.

Thanks.

Yes, writing an actual letter can be worth it. In my company, we have a special set of people who respond to these compaints. Here's a decent writeup on tips.

Then go ahead! The support representative ought to have been able to point you in the right direction.

Just as an aside... I also have Logitech devices (Mx Keys, Mx Master 3 at work, Mx Anywhere 2S mouse at home) and let's just say... I found the unifying USB dongle thing the best way to keep them connected to the computer.

Bluetooth flakes out every now and then and is a very jarring experience, especially as my work demands that the keyboard and mouse at least do not lag or delay whenever I need them.

This happens to any bluetooth device that is connected to any of the Mac computer I have at home, by the way. I also have a mechanical keyboard and an Android phone that are connected to my MacBook. Windows 10 is fine.

This is entirely an Apple problem. In this case, I live with the problem because the Mx Keys + Mx Master 3 combo is more productive to my workflow... than losing one USB port to the dongle thing. But if you are coming from Windows 10, I would say this is one area where Apple dropped the ball.

Ive got the Logitech Craft keyboard and I have always had trouble with the pairing sometimes not working. I’ve had to delete the profile and re-pair which is a pain. This problem was on a couple 2017 15” MacBook Pros which I eventually returned. I am getting the same problem with the 16”. Interestingly my Logitech Mx has never lost its pairing.

I believe you, but I also find it really strange. I use a Magic Touchpad and Magic Keyboard at work and have never had any problems, even in rooms with a lot of other bluetooth devices. I wonder what's different in my environment compared to yours.

Have been using the Logitech MX Keys and Master 2S the entire day. Once I got the keyboard paired,no issue at all.

The Magic Touchpad and Magic Keyboard use Apple's own proprietary workarounds to their own Bluetooth implementation... so they won't run into any issue at all.

Also the Logitech devices have Logitech Flow, which allows them to rapidly pair/unpair between different computers. If you use Logitech Flow, it's almost a requirement that you have to use the Unifying USB thing. Using Bluetooth will cause a lot of lag every time you switch over.

Good luck getting hold of someone at Logitech. I had issues with Flow and pairing on my MBA and Surface Pro back in Nov. Online forum was useless with no Logitech activity. Pinged them a message and they decided to get back to me about a week ago. That's something like 75-90 days later!

FTR, Logi Options and all MX3 Master functionality worked flawlessly on my 16" before I handed it back. It was just the MBA and Surface Pro that had issues.
