My MacBook (2022, M2 Air) is connected to a monitor most of the time and I only use it as a true laptop maybe once per month. I'm thinking it may be advantageous of me to sell now while it still has some value and use the money to buy the new Mini. The alternative would be to just keep the MacBook and buy whatever comes after the M4 Mini in the next few years.

Any thoughts?

I suppose if the value of the MBA is such that you can get a Mac mini with the same amount of storage, keyboard, and mouse/trackpad for what you sell the MBA for or less - Sure, why not? If you already have the keyboard & mouse/trackpad, all the better. You'll get warranty & possibly, potentially, a couple years extra life on the back-end. You also won't have a battery expense coming down the line in 2 to 4 years, like you will with the MBA.

If it means giving up your MBA and some cash, I'd pass.

The only big reason I am considering replacing my (also mostly desktop) M1 Air with an M4 mini is so I can plug in 2 monitors. M1 with 16GB still handles my CAD workloads just fine. If they don't sort out the ultrawide issue, I'll wait for M5.
