So.. making a long story short I managed to get a 16" MBPro for ~$500 about 2 months ago (brand new, no issues). I really like it..but I really only like the big screen, unfortunately the laptop is quite hefty. That's my main issue with it. The dGPU doesn't matter to me. I plan on keeping one laptop for college for the next 4 years. I am majoring in CS, so the i7 or m1 should be far more than enough performance wise.

I tried a M1 MBA and it has great performance as well and just feels snappier overall. I really like how light the smaller macs are too. Just sucks that their screens are so small.

If rumors are to be believed, there very likely will be a 14" MBPro with a redesign next year, which honestly is overdue at this point.

I'm just really afraid the resale value of the current 16 will plummet once the new (rumored)14"/16" with Apple Silicon is released next year (which, I assume will be released at the same time), and I'm really interested in buying the 14" model once its out (if the redesign ever does happen). What do you all think is the best course of action for me?
