Should I sell my retina MBP15 and get a ipad mini + homemade desktop. And then later down the road sell the ipad mini for an improved ipad mini with retina. Or should I just keep it, buy the ipad mini and a 27" external monitor.

I really regret my decision. I basically have 2.2k machine that I use for browsing the web, music, movies and facebook. Just because I wanted a retina display, 15" and because it was thin and light. But I was wrong about the later cause its still not mobile enough. Very rarely do I do heavy work and I am not a gamer either.

how about you just sell the computer and put the money back in the bank, or buy a couple shares of AAPL

I think from what you have said, a good option is: Mac-mini with a 27" monitor + iPad Mini (till retina iPad mini hit the shelves), but it depends on whether you really want a Windows machine as a desktop or not.

Or get the 13 rMBP model. More portable, slightly less expensive and will be more than enough fro what you do with it.

From all of the above, get a Macbook air and the ipad mini and if you really need more screen then get any kind of monitor 22" and up.

For peace of mind alone, you should sell it. If you're unhappy with the decision, why anguish over it. Correct the decision by selling it and getting the items that better fit your needs.

Building your own PC is the most efficient way to spend your $, I'd do it. The rMBP seems like overkill for your needs.

For what you describe, an iPad has enough power for your needs.

Sounds like the 15" rMBP wasn't the computer for you...

Do whatever will make you happy dude lol. I tried a macbook air and used it for several months and was always envious of people with the rmbp so I sold the Air (for way more than i was expecting) and got the rmbp. Been a happy camper :)
