Should i uninstall the facebook app? (iPhone Xs)
is there some more battery life if the app is not on the phone?
or should i only log out and close the app - when i dont use it.

Are you having battery issues? If so uninstalling Facebook isn't going to have much effect.
Why don't you have a look at your settings.
Privacy > Location > Location Services will show you a list of all the apps that update in the background. Except for the important ones turn the majority to "When Using."
Background App Refresh, most of the ones you use all the time can be switched on, you will notice by default they're all on, the rest, including Facebook can be turned off. They will update when you launch them but it will take a little longer. This will save battery life but you may lose some notifications you want. In the end it's all about tailoring the phone to do what you want, not what you don't want or need. Removing just one app won't do that.

This. GPS Always and BAR are two of the biggest culprits.

I haven't noticed that much of a difference either way with any of my phones. At least not enough of a difference to prevent me from using the app. The results seemed negligible, at least in my use case.

so you use the app?

I use it as well and it wasn't any problem at all. Did you check the Battery section in Settings?

Call me crazy, but i uninstalled the facebook app an there is really some more battery life on the iphone..

Maybe there was soe background activity from the app whihc don’t display on the settings?

BTW: yes, i disabled the background activities in the settings for the app.

Nope. You would see background activity as well. That's why I asked about the Battery section in settings to see if Facebook was the culprit, or you're just using your smartphone less now that you un-installed your FB app.

thats a good point, there is definitely some truth in it.

But maybe there was some backgound activity which is not displayed... maybe some informations for advertising or something else..

Well, if you could prove that background activity on an iPhone happened and wasn't displayed, you'll get security researchers running for their money :) You have the distinction between running an app front and center, or in the background. If it does not show up in Battery, nothing happened.

Without screenshots to compare it isn't really viable to gather much information; but if you're using the facebook app with a high brightness setting and scrolling through your timelime for an hour, loading hundreds of pictures in that process - it's no wonder that battery is getting used, right? But the app alone won't go rogue on you, it's almost always one's own usage.

definitely true - and like the process in the timeline with loading pictures and videos - that needs a lot of power...
sorry that i have no screenshot, i uninstalled the app days before....

and for security: we all know that when you search the web for a product or something - there is like magic some advertising for that in the facebook timeline.. :D :D

btw facebook advertising: do you think it will get better when i use now safari on privacy mode for facebook?

Don't worry, if it is fine for you now all is well :)

About security: Cookies are a magical thing! Almost every website drops some cookies, and FB, Amazon & Google are masters in putting the pieces together. If you shut down cookies altogether, you lose some convenience (logins have to be re-entered every time, preferred settings are forgotten, etc.), and you still see ads - just not tailored to what you might or might not like.

EDIT for clarity: Security is not compromised at all. Cookies are fine.

i wish im in a position to rid facebook out of my life.
unfortunately, my family is in too deep, i have a big family and they all live far away from me, this is the only way i can keep up to date with their life. first world problems for sure.

I recently installed the Facebook app after using Safari for a long time because I realised that the iPhone Xs can easily handle it, but I have notifs and BAR turned off. 😁 My phone works for me, I don't work for it.
