Can i get more money from selling my phone if i unlock it?
i thought this was the case but i see unlocked iphone 5 on craigslist being listed at lower price points than AT&T iphone 5

any idea on why this is?

Yes and no. Of course a factory unlocked phone will usually demand more. But since 3rd party unlocks for AT&T phones are going for $2.99, many will just go that route.

I think it's better to unlock, but don't think it's really a big deal as much as in the past.

Unlock it. I was actually shopping for a IP5 and an unlocked phone will bring more customers. You should get a pretty penny for that phone.

so then why r unlocked phones going cheaper than locked phones on craigslist?

This is an easy question. Post it for sale without lock details and see how many 'is it locked?' questions you get. If its important, you'll know soon enough.

I say do it. A lot of people don't know about thrid party sites. I just unlocked my 5S for $2 (swift unlocks) simply because I could. I spend more on apps in a week or two, so why not?

Where do you live. Around here that's not the case. And it makes zero sense for it to be the case anywhere, really. Why would anyone pay MORE for a locked phone? Think about it.

Also, consider the fact that what something is listed for doesn't mean it is GOING for that price. Keep an eye on listings. Maybe bookmark some. The ones that got removed are the ones that actually sold.

I figured I'd spend the $3 and do it. I didn't think it was much money if it made a difference or not.

I'd like to know more about this... I would love to unlock our 4S phones so I can get something out of them and upgrade to the 5S.
