Hello,

should I update my iMac2019 (64GB Ram / Catalina) to macOS 14 oder macOS 15 if the installed application (from Autodoesk) does support
Sonoma and Sequoia ?

Thank's a lot in advance for any feddback!

According to Autodesk the max macOS supported is Big Sur.

Sequoia. Not sure why anyone would choose to install an older OS version unless there are compatibility reasons.

AutoCAD 2025.1 is supported on Sequoia.

Looks like AutoCad site shows something different (and more complicated than AI wants to show)
System requirements for AutoCAD 2025 for Mac
Operating SystemApple® macOS® Sequoia v15 (requires Update 2025.1)
Apple macOS Sonoma v14
Apple macOS Ventura v13
Apple macOS Monterey v12

Sorry forgot to mention that the name of the tool is Flame. Flame 2026 does definitely support Sonoma or Sequoia.

E.g. because an older OS does consume less hw resources which results in a smoother user experience.

What surprises me is that under -> System Preferences -> Software Updates only macOS Sonoma is "available" to update. My idea was that on a iMac2019, macOS Sequoia can be installed as well.

Is this not the case?

If your iMac, in fact, supports Sequoia, then you can also make a Sequoia USB installer. Boot to that installer, and update your iMac.

Be sure to check in your System Information app (should be in the Applications/Utilities folder), look at the Hardware tab, and check the "Model Identifier", which should show iMac19,1 (or, iMac19,2 if you have a 21-inch instead of a 27-inch iMac.)

What a surprise... Applications -> Utilities -> System Information.app -> Model identifier = iMac 20.2

Still surprised that Software Updates does suggest only Sonoma. Therefore, I am unsure whether it makes sense to try it with a bootable macOS USB Installer...

Maybe software update will not offer Sequoia, when you have not yet updated to Big Sur or later.

And, of course, you can always boot to a USB installer that provides any supported MacOS installer. Your 2020 iMac will boot and can install any system from Catalina (10.15.6) to 15.4.1 (current version of Sequoia full installer). Apple should release version 15.5 full installer any day now. You can also choose to make a Sonoma installer, and boot from that . If you want to wait to install Sequoia on a system where Sonoma would be a good update (as I am doing), then there's nothing wrong with staying with Sonoma for now.
