After my miserable experience with the iPhone 12 mini, I’m back to using my trusty old SE1. When I migrated over to the 12 mini, some of my contacts were wiped, which Apple support have told me is a software issue with iOS 15. My SE1 is currently running iOS 14.8 which it says is ‘up to date’ but at the bottom of the screen it says ‘Also available iOS 15’. Does anyone know why this is?

I’m scared to move over to iOS 15 in case it causes problems, especially since this is such an old phone. I don’t want to lose any more contacts and Apple said the overheating issue with the 12 mini was also due to the software. But I’m worried about security if I don’t have the latest updates. Would it be very risky for me to stay on 14.8?

Apple is continuing to support iOS 14 with security updates alongside iOS 15. That's why it says it's up-to-date.

It sounds like you don’t use iCloud or another backup method.. sync your contacts to a cloud service as well as your media and such. Your SE won’t survive much longer, just use the 12.

I'm staying on 14.8 on my se and se2, ios 15 is too crappy and so buggy !
Updated my ipad to 15 ... regret it ... ios 15 is power hungry and memory hungry !

I already use iCloud to backup my contacts. This is a known bug with iOS 15 (according to Apple support). If you google it, you’ll find lots of other people with the same problem.

The 12 mini is awful so it’s being returned. I’ll use the old SE until it’s no longer supported.

@alpez I think I’ll do the same, for as long as possible. I’m just not sure what to do in the future, when more ios15 updates are released. Will you keep your SE on 14.8 even if it’s not as secure?

Yes

icloud and safari are where security breaks in ios ...

I dont use iCloud of security reasons, backup to my computer and uses Chrome !
I have friends with much older ios :)

Think ios 14 will last many years ! ( i hope)

on the iphone 11 pro, this RC occupies a little more than the betas, 9.49Gb compared to the 8.81Gb of iOS 15.0.2

0.7 gb larger 15.1 im staying on 15.0.2 on my ipad, and updating my se is not going to happen, apple seem to make all 16gb devices unusable as my se ... smart move :)
