I've been using my Apple Watch Series 6 stainless steel gold for more than 2 years. Is it the right time that I should upgrade to Series 9 or should I want for Apple Watch X which according to rumors could be a major upgrade (just like the way iPhone X was on its 10th Anniversary)?

I couldn't possibly determine what you'd find wow-ish since I have no idea how you use the watch. I also can't tell you what features you'd like from the X, since we know nothing about that either.

Luckily the Internet will let you compare them (only up to 9 so far).

Whether you should upgrade depends on how you use your watch, whether the new features make sense to you, what your financial situation is, etc.

The double tap and precision finding is something I like. My biggest concern with Series 6 is when I control my iPhone camera, the connection breaks occasionally. Do you think the new modem of Series 9 will overcome it?

I don't use that feature often but I've used it on occasion with both me SE and S8 and never had an issue. It's not likely to make it worse :) The S8 has a refreshed bluetooth chipset. Will it make a difference? Not sure.

I currently also have the series 6 ( (Stainless steel) and battery health is at 98%, for the last couple of days I have been looking at the 8 or 9 and after seeing that the upgrade is minute I always decide to stick with the 6. The watches look the same and one would never know by looking at the watch what is new other than minimal internal upgrades. Hopefully next year Apple will come out with a blockbuster design and wow factor.

The only occasion I use that feature is if my iPhone is connected on a tripod and I am in front of the camera and want to record video of myself with group. The issue that I mentioned was something I encountered only once or twice and I believe it might be because of inconsistency or lag caused by slow processor of Series 6 or the range.

Even the thin bezel on S9 is unnoticeable compared to S6? If I plan to upgrade, it's going to be another stainless steel golden.

Still have an S6 - I think the larger screen alone is worth the upgrade. I think the few S7 that are still at some retailers will go on clearance before the end of the year. We've already seen a couple recent sales on S8 which could go even lower for BF and/or other holiday sales.

There is kind of a short period of time where an older model transitions from decent value to not worth much anymore, so usually you're better off trying to move it before that value drops too low - with sales I mentioned above I would say now is a good time to upgrade from S5/S6.

No you shouldn't upgrade. You seem satisfied with what you have right now. At the point when you're no longer satisfied with your Watch you could consider upgrading. Or, if you're satisfied but the battery health is wanting, then just pay the $90-ish to get a new battery replacement :)

I noticed that the battery health is reduced to 87%. I thought Apple Watches have 500 recharge cycles. 200 more than iPhones

87% battery health is still considered good. It’s when it’s less than 80% that Apple considers that as time to replace the battery though you can continue to use it. You wouldn’t need to replace the battery either unless you find that the battery is exhausted before your daily routine is completed.

I have a similar question. I had the AW 3 and I am thinking of upgrading to AW 8 but there is 9 too. I know there is slight variations between AW 8 and 9.

The biggest issue I had with the AW 3 was the battery drain. This watch didn't last a day before the battery was low and I had to charge it every day. It was worst when the Wi-Fi was enabled.

I am thinking of AW 8 using it with Phone 13.

3 to 9 is substantial upgrade. Double the resolution, brightness, and so many health add-ons

I'm upgrading from an S6 to S9 largely because of 3 factors. Battery health on my S6 is down to 80% and I use it a lot in cold weather. Second, there is also a possible import ban on apple watches after the New Year due to a court ruling that Apple had inappropriately used sensor technology developed by some other company. My guess is that Apple will resolve this legal issue before the end of the year. And third, I have a lot of credit card points and my credit card company just ran a promotion giving a 50% increase in the value of the points when buying Apple products. If it wasn't for my concern that battery health would become increasingly problematic in the not too distant future I wouldn't have upgraded. I don't think the features of the S9 relative to the S6 are going to blow me away. My S6 is still a great device.
