I have a M1 air for home, a M1 pro for work, and a 2019 I9 15.4” MacBook Pro.

The M1 pro is my favorite but I am down to 96% battery health after only 48 cycles. The air is fairly new. Only has 12 cycles with battery health of 100. The 15.4” had a butterfly keyboard replacement recently which automatically gets a new battery so it has 12 cycles.

I am wanting to get into video editing and do some stuff like that but I haven’t taken the time yet so as of now a really light user. Should I trade the M1 pro in or sell it since the battery health is dipping and upgrade? Yes, I realize a lot of this is wanting to have the latest and greatest. What do you all think?

Is your current MacBook Pro M1 not meeting your needs? Have you outgrown it for video editing? Is it always choking with the multiple 4k streams in your workflow? If so, upgrade. Otherwise your money is better spent on videography equipment such as lighting and microphones. Good lighting can make the most out of a crappy camera and sound is more important than video quality if you want a professional appearance.

I just bought one, but if I had what you have, I wouldn't have bought one.

There's a few pretty big Youtubers who have been using the M1 iMac for all their editing needs without an issue. If you just want the latest and greatest, that's a train you'll be chasing forever (and TBH its a train most of us chase from time to time) but there's nothing wrong with that as long as you remain aware. Performance wise, the M1 Pro and M1 Max will definitely be quite a bit faster but then again, the M1 is already very quick. If I was in your position and I just wanted the latest, I would just go for the M1 Pro. No need for the Max.

In all honesty, there's a lot of people getting the M1 Pro and especially the M1 Max who will probably never use that computer to its potential... Its like buying a Ferrari just to get groceries...
