I'm an Austronaut
I believe dmg is more used, I just created a 500MB sparseimage but maybe I'm not doing the correct thing.

Should I use sparseimage or dmg? (pass protected)

thx

This should give you some info: Sparse Image

Unlike a full image file (.dmg), which takes up as much actual space as the real disk it represents (regardless of the amount of unused space), a sparse image file (.sparseimage) takes up only as much actual disk space as the data contained within.

@MacDawg, I appreciate it.

I'll give it a try for a couple months with both dmg and sparseimage and then decide or report here if one is more *reliable* than the other.

My intention is to store photos and have the ability to edit them in Lr while keeping them away from spies.

They should both be about as reliable as the other. I would personally recommend using a sparse image since then you can set the maximum size to a very large amount without having it take up that much space. It basically just gives you much more room to grow while saving space.
