Thinking of purchasing an iPhone 7 jet black. Should I'll wait till the new iPhone is announced? Will the price go down after the announcement or when the new iPhones come available for preorder?

Yes, the iPhone 7 price should get knocked down $100 or more. I would 100% not be buying one until the price gets knocked down.

Also will it be likely that apple will stop selling the iPhone 6s when the new iPhone is announced this week? I'm considering the 6s as a cheaper alternative to the 7.

Most likely - The 6S will be a two year old device at that point - You'll most likely be able to get the 7 at the price of the 6S

The price will go down, but generally storage tiers and colors are eliminated as well. If you’re picky about color and storage, you may want to pick up the 7 pretty quickly after keynote.
