Hi all!
Would appreciate your advice. I’ve been using for the past 5+ years my iphone 6. I’m not a heavy user at all and it suits my needs perfectly. My only complaint is camera quality (pretty awful) and the phone is very slow in general.

I’ve recently started a new job and would like a fresh start with a new iPhone 11Pro.

But since I clearly don’t change my phone very often - I was wondering if you think it would be better to wait for the iPhone 12Pro?

What would you do?

Definitely wait.

iPhone 6
iPhone X
iPhone 5G

These are all big changes in terms of form factor and function. At minimum, we're expecting a smaller notch, ToF rear lens, and 5G radio.

Can you afford to wait 6-7 months for the next model? There's going to be a big leap in performance from iPhone 6 to iPhone 11 Pro. The difference in cameras between iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro (or whatever it's called) is not likely to be very dramatic. Personally I wouldn't wait.

If you're in the USA I always tell people with this dilemma I'd do the iPhone Upgrade Program. In the fall you could pay to upgrade early if you love the new phone or wait until you've done 12 payments to get new phone. Or you could just make 24 payments and own the iPhone 11 Pro if you don't like the new iPhone.

This is the reason I didn't upgrade my 2+year old X this year.. 12 Pro 6.1 for my Christmas present to myself.🙂

The next model will always be better than the current one - for the rest of your life.
I think the most pain free way to deal with iPhones and iOS teething pains every year is to buy the current iPhone in the summer when that iOS version is done. Don't buy a launch day iPhone. Stay one version behind. That way you get hardware that came off a non-rushed assembly line and a finished version of iOS. No more endless iOS updates throughout the year like when getting a launch day phone riddled with new iOS bugs... and the phone will be cheaper too.

Buy the Iphone 11 Pro Max now. With your new job save to upgrade again to the 12, feed the machine as I do

Wait! I would totally wait and keep saving. You already waited this long what’s a few more months. I upgraded at xs max and I’m waiting for a bigger update so iPhone 12 pro max is my next upgrade.

There's no good reason to wait. By the time new model comes out for shipment and get it in your hands, you're looking close to thanksgiving if you let the rush go. New job, new phone and enjoy for the next seven months.

The phone is freaking amazing. The 11 craps all over your 6. Heck ... even the the 6S craps all over your 6. You're not going to believe how much faster phones are now. You can wait if 5G is important to you, but 5G is kind of meh right now. I wouldn't wait, personally.

As you say, you are not a power user and happy with your phone now, you will be delighted with the 11, no need to wait. Buy and enjoy a fabulous phone now, why wait for 6 months with an inferior phone?

The fact that you do not change your phone often makes me think you’d be better off waiting for something more future proof, so I’d say wait for 12 Pro 5G and at least you’ll be set for the next 5 or so years.
The 11 Pro itself is great, but seeing as you keep your phones long you’d miss out on 5G and have to buy something new very shortly after than you usually do.

I’m planning on making the switch back to iPhone for the first time in 7 years. I have the Note 9 now, almost done paying it off. Technically, I can go for the 11 Pro Max and have that, but since I’ve waited this long, I can wait for the 12. That’s what I intend on doing, just my personal preference. We’re already 3 months into the year what’s another 6? It’ll be a birthday gift to myself as my birthday is in September, so it’s more fitting for me to wait. I would recommend waiting as you’ll get the newest tech for the year!

Rumor has it 64megapixel with all 3 camera able to do night mode, if that’s true it’s pretty dramatic

Thank you, think I will go ahead and order. Soo... which color? 🙈
