I am going to college next fall and after being a lifetime windows user I have decided to go mac. I've made my mind up on 15" MBP, I tend to be a bit of a power user so I think it will be the best to suit my needs. My parents already have the money all set but I am wondering if it is the right time buy with the nehalem processors and snow leopard releases in the near future. I'm willing to wait a little while but I would like some time to adjust to the OS before school starts in august. How long do you think I should wait it out?

Snow Leopard is going to be a "maintenance" release for OS X. It won't add much and a computer you buy now won't be any slower when it finally comes along (it won't be for a long time).

Wait. When leopard was released anyone who purchased a mac without it a month or so before got a free upgrade. You don't really need Snow Leopard, but you can def. wait till after June to see what the situation will be. The longer you wait the better chances you'll have in getting the best product.

There will probably be an update next month.

Nehalem Mac notebooks look to be early 2010, although it might come earlier.

Ok, so I'll probably wait until early July.. and sorry for the duplicate GGJstudios, I did a quick scan of the threads before I posted but I wasn't aware of Mroogle... My Bad.

at least wait tell the back to school promotion starts that way you can get a free ipod.

I am buying a MacBook tonight...

And if you are anything like me you can't wait to get a MacBook right?:D

So just get one, everything is updated all the time so don't be worried...

Mac OS X Snow Leopard will only cost $150 anyway...

yeah but last year anything bought like within a month or two of Leopard was upgraded for $10 compared to that $150...:D

You may want to wait until June

You may want to wait until after Snow Leopard comes out. it will save you ~$100.00 or so for the upgrade, and still have a lot of time to learn the OS.

lol, well said.

Right, /only/ $150.

Some people on these forums just seem to have no concept of money- it's kind of disgusting.

that might go down as the best thread comment of 2009. :D However, please forgive the Mac Legion. The prices for our products are so high that paltry amounts like $150 seem like pocket change. :p
