Hi guys,

I plan to get myself an iMac at the next refresh of the line up and the waiting is killing me... Should I wait or just buy one tomorrow?

Thanks!

I'm in the same boat but I already bought an iMac this past Friday. I'm thinking of returning it and just waiting for the new iMac.

If you need one now, get it. If you can afford to wait, that's probably the best option.

You've waited this long so might as well wait a few more months.

I'm going to wait and then decide on the 2011 vs 2012 model for the iMac.

IMO you should buy one now, most of the time launch products are bad
e.g: ipod touch 1g

yeah, but the iPod touch 1st gen was the first of it's line.

Also, what kind of improvements have been made with Ivy Bridge? Since I'm new in the Mac world, do you guys think that I would need 8Gb of RAM and 2Tb HDD?

Yeah, I think I'll be waiting... I'll just be saving more cash for it haha!

2tb would be a bit overkill, maybe 1 or 1.5tb is good, but 8gb RAM should last you for a long time unless you want to upgrade

How can you say 2TB is overkill? You don't even know what the OP is going to use the iMac for

Uh  I find nothing wrong with the first gen of iPod Touch. At all.

OP, you don't need it, for example for work or something otherwise I guess you'd have mentioned. So just wait for the refresh, which could come in some months.

I posted this on the MacPro forum, but it applies to this thread as well.

We all know that when we buy something new it brings a temporary feeling of pleasure. Medically speaking, the brain releases dopamine (you can Google it to understand the impact on the brain and happiness) when we purchase a product (more so if it's a discretionary sexy product).

I believe that the potential for a dopamine release is one of the main reasons people have difficulty making the wait or buy decision. Many people don't need a new PC/laptop within the next two or so months. Sure they have some thinly veiled reasons to justify an immediate purchase. But if the potential buyer, through some unforeseen circumstance, could not make the purchase for a few more months, over 90% would be perfectly fine (the world would not end). However, the lure of a dopamine release (very similar to what a drug addict craves btw) is a powerful incentive to justify an immediate purchase. The problem is that once you make a dopamine driven purchase, you'll soon need another fix.

I'm waiting also. Come on Apple hurry. Nothing expected until iPad 3 has come and gone, so April looks plausible. No point in buying this model even if you really need it. I do but I'm willing to wait. Mid may 2 June is to long though.
